CRT buying and care

What to inspect, how to move one safely, connection basics, and when repair belongs with a technician.

Inspect before moving

Confirm the size and weight, plan the path, and bring enough help. Check the screen for deep scratches, the case for cracks, the cord for damage, and the inputs you need. Keep fingers away from brittle vents and plastic trim.

Test the picture calmly

Use a familiar source and let the set warm up. Look for stable geometry, consistent color, acceptable focus, working sound, and controls that respond normally. Strong odor, arcing, repeated shutdown, or loud electrical noise means stop.

Keep the cabinet closed

Clean only the unplugged exterior with materials appropriate for the screen coating. Internal adjustment and repair require training, proper tools, and high-voltage safety knowledge. Find a technician before a small problem becomes a dangerous one.
